Biobank- Bank of Neurological Tissues of the Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu
The Biobank- Bank of Neurological Tissues of the Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu (Biobank-BTN PSSJD) is authorized by the Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya and it is registered in the National Registry of Biobanks of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III since 2013. It is part of the Brain Platform of CIBERSAM. It manages a multitude of biological samples that are stored and frozen at -80 ºC. It has different collections among which the collection of neurological tissues in schizophrenia stands out. It was collected under a living donation program, and it has a great value and quality for biomedical research. It is also incorporating new collections of biological samples in psychiatric, rheumatological, infectious and oncological diseases through collaborations with research projects of the PSSJD and care services for the collection of research left-over and diagnostic left-over biosamples.
Services
The catalog of services provided by the biobank are the following:
• Provision of samples of brain tissue, cerebrospinal fluid or blood from the neurological tissue collection of the schizophrenia donor program. Dissections of requested brain areas are performed.
• Processing of brain tissue samples to provide DNA, RNA, protein extracts and cDNA samples from the Neurological Tissue collection.
• Processing of peripheral blood samples to provide samples of DNA, RNA, cDNA and protein extracts from collections of psychiatric pathologies (Schizophrenia spectrum disorders and other psychotic disorders and Affective spectrum disorders).
• Processing of peripheral blood samples to provide plasma, serum or whole blood samples from collections of psychiatric pathologies (Schizophrenia spectrum disorders and other psychotic disorders and Affective spectrum disorders), rheumatological (Fibromyalgia) or infectious (COVID -19 and matched controls).
• Isolation and separation of PBMCs (Peripheral blood mononuclear cells) and leukocytes from peripheral blood to provide samples for collections of psychiatric pathologies (Schizophrenia spectrum disorders and other psychotic disorders and Affective spectrum disorders), rheumatology (Fibromyalgia ) or infectious (COVID-19 and matched controls).
• Quality control of the samples collected and transferred. pH analysis in brain tissue. Absorbance quality analysis at 260nm and 280nm for DNA samples. Quantification of nucleic acid concentration by spectrometry (Nanodrop) and protein extracts by Bradford in ELISA Readers.
• Ethical-legal advice and implementation of circuits for the collection of samples from biological samples from surpluses from research projects or diagnostic surpluses.
